10 editorial makeup looks I loved doing! 10 looks de maquillaje para una modelo! by latina makeup and beauty

Hola chicas!  I wanted to share with you guys this editorial that came out a few months ago in "Spirit & Flesh" magazine.  It was shot by the amazing photographer Robert Ascroft who has shot everyone from Penelope Cruz to Brad Pitt.  Amazing talent and equally nice person- www.robertascroft.com
The theme was "Lust" and it was a surreal love story.  I think the shots speak for themselves.  I'll go through the makeup looks that day and show you the pictures I have.

The first look called for the model to almost look like a mannequin so my first thought was to completely erase her eyebrows.  Here's the way to get results for print:

*TIP: Rub alcohol on the brow area first, then apply the spirit gum and lay the hairs down,  apply the wax on top of that (usually in a couple of layers). This creates a very smooth seamless surface for the makeup to go on top. If you want an easier and quicker way to do it you can always try a glue stick.

Here are the results:

Hola Chicas!

Editorial makeup by Luis Casco. Photo by Robert Ascroft
For the third look she was really like a robot that came to life by her partner.  I used a silver stick from MakeUpForever Pro line to highlight her eyes and certain areas of the face and also gave her face a slick shine effect.

*TIP- Easy way to get that slick shine on the face for a picture- Cold cream applied with a kabuki brush!

For the fifth look I took a gel eyeliner and with a brush smudged lines in the outer corners of her eyes- worked perfectly with the messy hair.

As you can see there was a male model and again I wanted to give his skin a "superhuman" look.  So I used the cold cream trick over face and body foundation:

For look 7 she started to become "alive" so I started smudging the gel liner into the silver wash to create a deeper look to her eyes:

Then it was time for the cover and look 8 so I added some feathery lashes and darkened the eyes and cheeks even more:

Are you tired yet :)?  The day continued and I took the eyes to an "ultimate smoke" by smudging more black gel eyeliner on her eyes.  Yes- it was late and I did it quickly with my fingers (look 9):

Here's a close up of that look:

Then it was time for the last look of the night.  She turned out to be completely doused in water so I smudged the makeup even more and made her lips pale pink.  Here's the final result:

Loving stained lips for Fall! Look de labios para el Invierno! by latina makeup and beauty

Stained lip look.  Makeup by Luis Casco
Want a great way to update your makeup look for Fall?  Try a lip stain!  There's nothing cooler to me that makeup that looks effortless and not too serious.  These lips almost look like you had some berries and they stained your lips.  It's one of my favorite ways to incorporate color into a Fall makeup look.

Here's how to do it:

1- While you are doing the rest of your face apply lip balm to your lips.
2- Dry any excess of lip balm and then with your fingers pat a layer of a deep toned lipstick. I love purples, dark reds and even dark browns for this.

3- Now blot lips with a tissue.
4- Repeat a couple of times.  Remembering that the more you layer- the longer it will last!

Enjoy!!

 Disfruta!

Makeup for hooded eyes. Maquillaje para ojos encapuchados. by latina makeup and beauty

Luis Casco makeup for hooded eyes/ maquillaje para ojos encapuchados

I wanted to share this shot I did in New York with this gorgeous model who hailed from Mongolia!  I created this look for the Oscar de La Renta ready to wear collection for Bergdorf Goodman. It really exemplifies a great way of doing hooded eyes.  And this so happens to be one of the questions I get from you the most so here are some of my tips.
There are other ways of using eyeshadows on this type of eye but I will just stick to the one I used on this picture so that you can follow along and hopefully give it a try!
1-First I recommend using an eyeshadow primer and make sure you apply it close to the base of the lashes on top and bottom.  This will make sure that the eyeshadow stays in place where you want it to.
2- Start applying an overall wash of a light color all over the lid.
3- Then make sure that you look straight onto a mirror and with a brush press lightly in the area right under the brow bone- that's where you want to create your own "crease".  Take a darker shade (here I used a lavender/plum shade) and create a "cut crease" shading on your eyelid.  Meaning, make a dark line and then blend from there.  Also, apply this eyeshadow under the eye for a seamless overall look.
4- Lastly, using a gel or pencil eyeliner make a very thin line right at the base of the lashes and extend it up and out depending on how dramatic you want it to be.  The thinner you can get the line the better!
And that's just one way of doing it- enjoy!!

And here's a shot of one the dresses we shot that day!

"Makeup mogul" My interview in Hispanic Health & beauty magazine by latina makeup and beauty

Luis Casco. Hispanic Health and Beauty. August 2013

I spoke with Carolina Garcia former Editor of Hispanic Health & Beauty magazine a few weeks ago and here's an excerpt from our conversation!

Luis's beauty philosophy:
"Well, I think every woman wants to look beautiful and make an entrance. I try to create makeup that enhances a woman''s beauty and not into makeup that screams makeup!"

"Especially in cities such as Chicago and New York, and places where there's a clear change in the weather, I tell every woman they should have at least two different shades of foundation.  As Ia makeup artist, ever since I started, I've always had to blend things like foundations and powders.  I think with Latinas specifically, a lot of us Latinos have a bit more of a tendency to get spots on our skin, so it's very important that whatever it is that we are using has sunscreen in it. To me, that's an overall; that's men, that's women, that's children, that's "abuelos," that's everybody.  Everyone should be using sunscreen to avoid sunspots and discoloration on the skin," he advises.

Click on the photos to read the full article.  Enjoy!

Quick-60's influenced- summer makeup look! ALL Mary Kay products used. by latina makeup and beauty

Wearable 60's makeup by Luis Casco
The shot above was taken by me in my kitchen while playing around with makeup on my friend Rose's face.  I was working on an ad campaign for Mary Kay and wanted to try out the looks before the actual job and on someone's face.  How lucky am I to have such a gorgeous willing friend right?

We really had fun picking the right foundation for her as well as using the facial highlighting pen to bring out the bridge of her nose.  On her eyes I combined pencil and liquid eyeliner for the ultimate look.  I used a clean foundation brush to apply the cream cheek color and then blended it for the perfect cheek flush.  Pink gloss and she's ready to go!  Groovy and wearable!!

Here's a list of the products used:

Luminous-Wear liquid foundation in Bronze 4
Facial highlighting pen in Shade 3
Brow definer pencil in Brunette
Brow Gel
Cream blush in Cranberry
Golden Vanilla applied on lid to crease
Honey spice from crease to brow-*make it stronger right at the crease and then blend up from there
Black eyeliner layered with Liquid eyeliner
Lash love lengthening mascara in "I love black"
NouriShine Plus lip gloss in Pink Parfait

Black eyeliner pencil mezclado with Liquid eyeliner.
Lash love lengthening mascara en "I love black"
NouriShine Plus lip gloss en Pink Parfait

My first photoshoot in Paris! My primera photoshoot en París by latina makeup and beauty

My first photoshoot in Paris.  Place Vendome. Luis Casco makeup
I will start posting these "Throw back Pictures" as much as possible as they are cool memories that many of you might enjoy.  This shot was taken in the late 90's and it brings back a ton of memories as it was the first (real) Fashion photo shoot I ever worked on.

The model was wearing Azzedine Alaia Couture- was over 6'5" with her platforms and we had a huge bystander audience.  I loved the lady in the background starting at her.  It was a magical day I'll never forget.  I was all about lots of fake eyelashes then so I used like three pairs that I had bought at my favorite Parisian secret "Sephora" :)  Who would have known then that they'd become the McDonald's of beauty in the future?

My makeup kit then was a tool box I had bought at a hardware store and I carried a few odds and ends.   Bourjouis was a brand I used a lot until I was introduced to MakeUpForever.  Black models back then also swore by Visiora by Dior as they had some foundations that matched their skin tones.

Tres chic and très fun!!!

I'M BACK CHICAS! by latina makeup and beauty

Chic makeup up look by Luis Casco NYC 2013
It has been three months since my last posting and I can't hardly believe it!  I have been blessed with back-to-back jobs that have taken me in many amazing trips since then.  This year alone I have gone to New York (4 times), Miami (3 times), Dallas,  Hawaii, Mexico City and I know I'm probably forgetting some other amazing locations I have visited.  This has not given me the time to post but I promise to be more visible to you all from now on.

The picture above is from an upcoming beauty advertising I shot in NYC a couple of months ago.  It is actually a backstage shot I took with the model's cell phone in the dressing room where she was changing.  The top was an amazing Lanvin silk sheath that exposed her whole back!  I really wanted to add dimension to her eyes and did that with an exaggerated "V" shaped contour.  I accomplished this  with a black crayon eyeliner smudged with a brush.

*TIP- To get this perfect contour on the eyes try using a piece of scotch tape.  Lightly place it in a diagonal shape from the corners of your nose up to the ends of the eyebrows and voilá you have a perfect stencil!

The lips are just a chic fuchsia red semi matte texture.  A slight bit of contour on her cheeks with bronzer was all she needed to complete the look.

And here is a picture the model posted of her lips- she loved the shade!!!

PS**The products have not been launched yet so I'm not allowed to tell you what they are but as soon as they're available I'll re-post the names!!

Fuchsia lipstick look by Luis Casco makeup

ABRAZOS,

COVERGIRL'S Clump Crusher Mascara Video! by latina makeup and beauty

One of my all-time most asked questions is "what mascara do you recommend" and while I do have my favorites there are always new formulations coming out that never cease to amaze me!  When COVERGIRL asked me to review and do a video about their new LashBlast Clump Crusher Mascara I was happy to do so.  I believe you don't always have to pay a lot of money for great makeup results and at less than $10 this is a great option for someone on a budget.  Well, at ANY budget I can tell you that I fell in love with it instantly.  Look at the before and after picture here on my model and Fashion/Beauty blogger Giselle Ugarte from Sprintinginstilettos.com - and NO we didn't use fake lashes at all!

Giselle Ugarte- before and after- makeup by Luis Casco

We then shot this video (all in Spanish) in which I give you my favorite tips for awesome lashes.  Giselle's are a bit straight and have a tendency to fall downward.  My tricks as shown in the video are here:
-Make sure your lashes are clean of any oils/makeup/old mascara -this weighs them down
-Curl them- with a curler, spoon or however you prefer but curl them!
-Apply a very light coat of mascara- as a rule of thumb, I clean the wand the first time so as to not get too much product on them.  Let them dry for a few seconds.
-Curl a second time
-Go to town and apply as many coats of LashBlast Clump Crusher Mascara -and it won't clump!
-Watch my video for the three directions I recommend you apply it in to get that maximum "fluttery" look!

ENJOY!!

Here's my work on the lovely Génesis Rodríguez which is out on newsstands right now.  She has amazing skin so it was no feat to create the makeup looks for this Cover/editorial.  The cover is all about pink lips to celebrate Valentine's day.  I also used a combination of bronzer and blush on her cheeks and to contour her face.  A little bit of cream eyeliner and she was ready!
The editorial story called for a "Hollywood" movie star look- after all we were shooting right off of Hollywood boulevard.  So the photographer set up a tent and I changed to lips to a deep red and pumped up the eyeliner for a 5 minute change!  Congrats to Génesis who has quite a few Hollywood movies which are about to come out.  One being "Identity Thief" which comes out this Friday.

The best makeup party look- hands down! by latina makeup and beauty

I wanted to share some of the looks from a shoot I did recently in which I really concentrated on mixing textures to create a soft, smoky look that anyone could wear.  Here was the first shot of the day, it was a December editorial and the model was wearing a $5,0000+ beaded Herve Leger gown and dripping with diamonds and swarowsky crystals!!
First of all, I wanted the focus to be on the eyes so I toned down her eyebrows with my favorite MAC tinted "Brow Set" in Beguille.  It's like painting subtle highlights on the eyebrow hairs.  Then on the lid I added Shiseido's "Shimmering Cream Eye Color" in  MIST.  The sparkle and slight color brings out the hazel in her eyes.  Then I used Mary Kay's Gel Eyeliner in Jet black applied right at the base (and I mean as thin and close to the root of the lashes as possible.  *This gel eyeliner is awesome and I hope Mary Kay keeps it in their regular line as I believe it is now a "Limited Edition"  Great consistency and easy to apply.  Last with a brush I smudged the liner under the eyes and brought what was left on the brush onto the crease of the eyes.  Just make sure that the line is not visible- it will make the whole look modern and updated.  *Not every smoky eye needs to have a thick winged eyeliner.
I finished off the look by taking Covergirl's "Queen Collection Natural Hue Bronzer" in Brown bronze and blending it right on the crease and under the eye to bring the whole look together (great quick tip to finish out a smoky eye look)
As far as her lashes go, my model had very straight and hard to curl ones.  So I curled them with a heated curler and then used the Mary Kay Lash Primer followed by Lash Love mascara on top and bottom lashes.

Then, it was all about cheeks and lips.  My model had a round face so I again used Covergirl's "Queen Collection Natural Hue Bronzer"  to contour her cheeks and temples.  Then I applied Nar's "The Multiple Stick" in Riviera right on top.  I first apply it with my fingers- it will look strong- but then blend it out with a cheek brush and you get the most gorgeous texture.
On the lips?  Just OCC's lip tar in Palest Peach- quick and easy!

Bohemian Chic- my tips in October's Cosmo! by latina makeup and beauty

Bohemian Chic makeup and hair.  Makeup by Luis Casco @ Cloutierremix/ Hair Sienree @ Celestine

As seen in this month's Cosmopolitan en Español, here are my tips to achieve this look wich I called "Bohemian Chic"
"To achieve I recommend using a very natural foundation or leave the skin alone if possible.  A tinted moisturizer or mixing a bit of moisturizer with your foundation might be all you need.  On the eyes, use a cream or gel eyeliner by first applying it as close to the root of the lashes as possible.  Use black or gray and then blend the line out with a fluffy brush until you achieve the intensity you are after.  Afterwards apply at least two coats of mascara on top and bottom lashes.
Since the eyes are so neutral and dark I love to use a bit of color on the cheeks so I recommend using a peach colored one- even a cream blush which looks beautiful in the Fall.  Finish the look with a nude lip and you are set to go.
To get this look with the hair, I recommend that you make 5-10 braids throughout your whole head of hair, spray them lightly and if possible, sleep with them.  In the morning, let them go... and you will have this gorgeous texture- super volume and seductive!!

My new cover with Cristian De La Fuente by latina makeup and beauty

Here's my "Cosmopolitan Man" cover of actor Cristian de La Fuente.  What a trooper this guy was!  After flying an overnight flight following a week of filming in Mexico City, Cristian flew in early in the morning into LAX and headed immediately to Topanga which was our location for the day.  He was with us all day, worked so professionally with everyone and still managed to leave that day only to sign up for the following day's Malibu Triathlon!  WOW!  The look for the story was all about a fall day in the country.  I wanted to bring out our models bright blue eyes by using a heavy liner all around the eyes then slightly messed it up by using a bit of clear lipgloss on the lids.  That was it!  And our hair genius Sienree added some extensions and that amazing texture for the "fashionable grunge" hairstyle.

TOP finds in my makeup kit right now! by latina makeup and beauty

Makeup by Luis Casco for Neiman Marcus Beauty

I wanted to share with you some of the products I've discovered lately that I'm using on set and give you my honest opinion of them.  I should point out some of them have been given to me by the companies and some of them I've purchased but I wanted to share the really great ones I'm the most excited about and that I've actually used at work.
I am also including all price points.

1- SHISEIDO's Shimmering Cream Eye Color- Ok- so all cream eye shadows crease right?  well this one doesn't!  It does dry down to a soft powdery look and doesn't look as "creamy" or "wet" as some others but it really gives a beautiful texture- makes it look as if you've spent a long time blending it- when maybe you just applied it with your fingers.  Favorite colors are Sable, Leather and Meadow. Dick Page has done an amazing job with Shiseido's color line.  You'll be impressed! $25

2- MARY KAY's Gel Eyeliner.  Awesome!  A great value at $16 the black is really black and the teal can be blended out for a soft look.   Try applying a thick line at the base of the lashes and quickly blending it out with a brush for a great, fast smoky eye. Also, the brush that comes with it is really perfect for a precise application I just wish it wasn't a "limited edition" product so stock up while it's here.

3-  COVERGIRL's LipPerfection Lipcolor lipstick in "Spellbound" and "Hot".  Pat McGrath's Runway shades for COVERGIRL are a must- they are so pigmented and at around $6 you should own them all.  They are wonderful and can compete with much more expensive ones!

4- NEUTROGENA's Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes.  I hand these to everyone I'm working with who need to take their makeup off.  And they even remove Waterproof mascara!!  $6.49 for 25

5- CLE DE PEAU BEAUTE Concealer.  It comes in 4 shades and I would tell any makeup artist to get them all.  You can mix them to correct even the hardest under eye dark shadows.  I barely swipe my finger on the stick as all you need is a touch of it on most people but oh so beautiful!  At $70 each they're an investment though!
